Joshua's 11th birthday is Saturday, June 20th, 2020. Father's day.
We decided as a family to celebrate his birthday by releasing white balloons with messages from his friends.
We will gather by the front of our house at 12:30 pm, trying to spread along the driveway or street to keep the 6 ft apart rule.
Please share with us in this blog a story, a moment, a funny memory, things that made "a mark" in your life after meeting Joshua. Also you can share "An Act of Kindness" done to you or by you on Joshua's memory.
While you share your memories, please remember to smile! He is alive and well!
We will see him again soon!

My memory of Joshua is whenever we would play soccer at school he was always a real team player. We also had a lot of fun at kids rock camp playing baseball together.
I shared this message a few days after we lost Joshua, but it seems fitting to share it again here:
Joshua was one of the first kids our son, Kale, met when we moved to Clarenville about 1.5 years ago. He was one of those kids who made Kale feel welcomed right away. Over the past few days, Kale has shared stories from this past summer about his adventures frog-catching and tree-house-building with Josh and their other friends from Shoal Hr Valley.
Upon hearing about Josh’s accident, our younger daughter, Quinn, immediately shared a sweet story about a time when Josh helped her after she had fallen off a slide. Kale reminded me of a hockey practice about a month ago. He came home that night beaming - he was so proud to tell me that in the dressing room, Josh had told him, “Kale, you’re the nicest boy in all of Grade 5!” Those kind acts meant so much to Quinn and Kale. Joshua had a way of making those around him feel special and important - that is truly a gift.
Happy Birthday Joshua. We’re thinking of you and your whole family today. The boys have started venturing back to the frog pond and tree house. They think of you daily and speak your name often. Sending much love from The Greenings
We met Joshua last summer, our boys played on the same travel team in Vermont. Joshua left quite an impression on all of us with his sweet smile, caring heart and love for hockey. Lastnight I asked Ashton and Ty to write words that they thought of when they think of Joshua. We will all always remember ❤️.
One of the last memories I have of Joshua is watching him help my Luke maneuver his wheelchair, he did it ever so modestly and not to be noticed, he had no idea I seen him, It touched my heart❤
I have known Joshua from school for years. I taught him several times while substitute teaching at Riverside. One of my favorite memories was from this past Fall. Our Grade 2 class was working with their buddy readers in Grade 5. They were writing a Halloween story together. Joshua was so patient and helpful while working with his Grade 2 buddy. He would encourage him and praise him any chance he could. I remember sitting with them and telling Joshua how proud I was of him. He smiled and said "Thank you!" I thought of that moment many times in the classroom after returning to work after Christmas. ❤️ Joshua will forever be in our hearts.

Our first memory of Joshua goes back to Soccer Tots. At the early age of 4, Joshua was a star soccer player. Shortly after that we realized Joshua lived on the same street as we did. Joshua then became one of my boys best friends. They didn’t need to set up playdates or be invited to each other’s house. It was a given that they would hang out. They rode to school together, built numerous forts out in the woods, played spotlight, street hockey, tag and whatever else they could think of. They were awesome Cross Country runners. Joshua was Ryan’s biggest rival but this did not affect their friendship. I called them The Bowser’s Hill Boys. They were always active and up to something.
Joshua was very proud of the fact that he helped Ryan get involved in hockey. Bryan and Joshua
on a warm evening one July got Ryan all dressed for hockey to make sure he had everything he needed before the season started. They even gave him one of Joshua's old hockey bags and an old stick to get started. Ryan will cherish that stick forever.
This year Ryan was on Joshua’s ice hockey team. Ryan changed positions to become the goalie. Joshua could play any position because that is how good of a player he was. However, when he played defense Ryan knew that Joshua had his back. There was no way that puck was getting near the net. Joshua was so proud when Ryan would make a save and he would be the first down to celebrate with Ryan after a victory. One memory that stands out to me is when the team was playing exhibition games in Placentia in December. Joshua forgot to bring his jerseys and was a little upset. So Ryan let him borrow his jerseys as it didn’t really matter what jersey the goalie wore. We made an A and taped it to the front of the jersey. Before going on the ice Joshua told Ryan that he would get a shutout and that Ryan’s jersey would get some goals. That is exactly what happened. Joshua came off the ice beaming.
We have many memories of Joshua and we will continue to cherish them. He is dearly missed by all.
Joshua❤️He was one of my son’s best friends! We first met the Wilcox family during a breakfast with Santa at the Clarenville Inn. We were lining up with the kids to have their pictures taken with Santa. Along side of us was a little brown haired brown eyed boy who was super excited. Elizabeth and Bryan introduced themselves and Joshua. We quickly learned that we lived on the same street! That following summer, the kids began playing together in the backyard. This is where Joshua’s and Chayse’s friendship began! Over the years, they created so many memories together which we will cherish. From playing on the street to building forts, riding bikes, sleepovers and playing hockey! Joshua had a love for hockey! Two years ago, Joshua recruited Chayse to play minor hockey. He was one of Chayse’s biggest fans, cheering him on, giving him tips and teaching him everything he knew about hockey! They enjoyed so much time skating on Joshua’s ice rink passing pucks and shooting on the net. When it came to hockey though, Joshua and Chayse would have much debate over the NHL teams they cheered for. This is where my favourite memory of Joshua stems from. Last summer, Joshua travelled for hockey. Upon his return, he came knocking at our door looking for Chayse. He had the biggest smile on his face as he handed Chayse an early birthday present which contained items that were Montreal Canadians. However, there was something even more special than the gift that Joshua gave Chayse. Joshua had made a birthday card for him with a Montreal Candians symbol drawn on the front and the card read: “Happy Birthday! We may cheer for different teams but you will always be my best friend! Go Leafs!” We kept this card and I’m so glad that we did! It is so very special and we will cherish it forever! We miss you sweet Joshua❤️
My first memory of Joshua is in 2014, shortly after we moved to Clarenville. Elizabeth and Bryan, you stopped by our house for something, and Joshua was running circles in the front yard. You remarked - "He has so much energy! He keeps us busy! He loves soccer!"
How true that was of Joshua! As his pastor, I got to see his energy and enthusiasm for life over the next nearly 6 years. In the way he played games (always wanting to win!), in the way he worshipped (always breaking out his best dance moves but then rolling his eyes and trying to act cool 😅), and in more serious times (the way he asked me tough questions and always searched for real answers in the Bible).
One of my favourite memories of Joshua is at Kids Rock Camp 2019. Joshua spent some time in one of the church services worshipping God around the front and really experienced God's presence. Getting to pray with him that night was a privilege!
That memory stands out to me and reminds me of the hope we have, even though I miss Joshua dearly. Hope because Joshua loved God, knew Him and was his child - we will see him again someday. ❤
Where do I begin,
I was blessed to be a child care provider for Joshua! I have many many memories of Joshua, I love how excited he would be to tell me something on Monday mornings about what he did on the weekends, I will forever be grateful and honored to of known such a happy, caring little boy! Joshua touched my life by reminding me of how important it is to smile and be happy, as we all know he had the most contagious smile that could light up the room.
Forever in my 💓
